George Azmy


George is an Egyptian artist born in Cairo in 1983. During his bachelor's years at the Faculty of Fine Arts at Helwan University, he worked in several design houses, which certified him as an established graphic designer before his graduation. He was later awarded the Cannes Lions, Lynx, and Clio advertising awards as an art director at several global advertising agencies. In 2007, he had his first solo exhibition “Planet Cairo”, followed by a group exhibition “Breaking Boredom”, both held at the Townhouse Gallery in Cairo and “undercurrent” exhibition held at art sawa gallery in Dubai. George is also a prominent stand-up comedian, which feeds of his sharp observational skills, which he employs in his artwork. Spanning subjects from the day to day bureaucracies of a city to the most intimate details of a young man’s life, Azmy’s work is as dark-humored as it is deeply insightful. George later started writing for film and tv. As he headed the writing team of Saturday night Arabia for OSN network.
